Stephen and his sister Jessica are older than my brother and I so it felt special when we got to play with them. I don't know too many kids that enjoy playing with younger kids. Stephen had a bike with trick pegs on it and Shane was able to ride around standing on those.
Our families would regularly get together for meals and drinks, so the trudge through the two vacant blocks to one another's house was made often. In fact I made that walk with my roller skates in one hand and a bottle of sauce in the other, with a freshly broken arm.
Stephen's family was very much into river life, particularly water skiing. I remember going back to visit them some years later and realising that their "huge" boat wasn't the ship I remember it to be.
Possibly on the same trip, Stephen decked my brother out in his hockey gear. At the time we didn't know he would someday win gold for Australia.
